Queen Mary's Place - Roehampton

The Challenge

Queen Mary's Place is a new build apartment block located in Roehampton, South West London. Barretts of Aspley (BoA) successfully tendered to an existing client, St. James to provide the architectural steel work. The project required a large number of powder coated steel balconies and juliettes with glazing and decking. These would be installed within a tight build programme and with no scaffolding.

The Solution

Having produced initial C.A.D. drawings and thoroughly planning the build programme with the client, production could begin. Although all aspects of the project fell comfortably within BoAs remit of services, tight timescales dictated that the build programme and procurement of materials would need to be handled efficiently.

The nature of the scaffoldless build meant that the 88 balconies and 76 juliettes would be pre-assembled in the BoA production facilities, before being transported to site, ready to install. Fabrication, powder coating and fixing of the glazing and decking were all synchronised to ensure a streamlined production process.

Once on site the highly skilled installation team used plant services provided by sister company BOA Plant to crane the complete balconies into place. A cherry picker was used alongside this to elevate the two man installation team.

All aspects of the build process were delivered successfully and the architectural steelwork adds a stunning modern feel to the building.
