Norway Wharf is a new build of seventy three residential apartments contained within four blocks located in Central London. The site enjoys spectacular views across the river Thames and the City of London. Barretts of Aspley (BoA) successfully tendered for structural and architectural steelwork package awarded by the main contractor Scanmoor Construction, on behalf of the housing developer Galliard Homes.
The successful pitch answered the problems of a tight deadline, due to the completion date of the finished apartments. Whilst maintaining the look and feel required by the client's architect and engineer.
The design of Norway Wharf required Boa to encompass many different disciplines over and above conventional structural and architectural steelwork including unique timber screening and aluminium panel work. In order to deliver the desired aesthetics, BA extended their remit of services to offer a 'one stop shop' ensuring one supplier could take care of as much of the building work as possible. This approach saved both time and money for the client.
The wide variety of services provided by BoA encompassed many elements of the site. BoA are responsible for various structural elements including the balcony structures, large roof structures, a brie soleil and a five storey spiral staircase which was prefabricated in five sections.
The installation process was complicated by the close proximity of both the Limehouse Cut Canal and the Docklands Light Railway. This created a tight working environment with the only access point being on Commercial Road. BoA worked closely with Scanmoor to seamlessly integrate with the program and the site logistics required to complete the build successfully.
Everyone involved in the development of this unique building considers Norway Wharf a major success. BoA has continued to work with Scanmoor on a variety of projects as a result of the success of this build.
