Kingston Riverside

The Challenge

Kingston Riverside is a large residential development in Kingston-upon-Thames which fronts the River Thames. BoA successfully tendered for the works and was appointed to design, supply and install the architectural metalwork package on behalf of the main contractor, Midgard Ltd.

The Solution

The development consists of two large blocks on the North and South ends of the site both with a sizable quantity of balconies, wrapped with curved feature ‘Finial’ steelwork from roof level down to ground floor. The blocks are linked with a lower level structure which required balustrading to large expanses of terraced areas. Due to the nature of the architect’s requirements for the building envelope, the balconies needed to seamlessly integrate with the building façade. This posed a significant challenge to the design teams of both BoA and Midgard to ensure that manufacturing details and specifications were closely co-ordinated to ensure that once on site, all materials from both parties integrated together coherently. Added to the complexity of the metalwork interfaces, the ‘Finial’s’ provided a big challenge to BoA as they measured up to 48 meters, as well and as requiring precision cambering in order to achieve the correct rolling radius required. BoA’s attention to detail and precision engineering ensured that the Finial’s were manufactured and installed to the tightest tolerance, achieving the stunning effect the architect and client had envisaged. BoA’s ability to manufacture and deliver high quality products, in tight timescales and in large volume, ensured that the project was successfully delivered to the client on time and satisfied their high expectations.
